I photograph weddings in a documentary manner — no re-staged poses, no rehearsed frames. My job is to gather the day whole: the glances, the toasts, the tears, the laughter — the moments that cannot be directed.

Documentary wedding photography is, for me, a way of stopping time. A good wedding photograph works ten years later exactly as it did on the day it was taken: you open the album and you are back in that morning, by that window, next to that person. Posed pictures date; reportage doesn’t.

Egor and Ekaterina’s day was exactly that kind of day — calm, warm, and spent with the people closest to them. No loud staging, no forced smiles. At weddings like this I work a little differently: fewer wide establishing shots, more details, more glances, more hands. When nobody is performing for the camera, the frames come out alive.
